My add-on domain websites were hacked in mid-September, and I spent several frustrating weeks trying to get help from my hosting company. How do I know if my website has been hacked or infected with malware?
Common signs include unexpected redirects, admin users added to the database, strange pop-ups, defaced pages, missing files, spam links, or warnings from browsers and Google. Sometimes, infections are well hidden — then a malware scan is the only way to know for sure.
Can a hacked website harm my business or my Google rankings?
Yes, absolutely. Search engines can blacklist infected pages, which leads to traffic losses. Visitors might also see security warnings, which can damage your reputation and conversions.
If traffic gets redirected to another website, you could lose all your customers and Google rankings!
Should I restore my website from a backup?
If you have a clean, up-to-date backup, that’s often the quickest solution. However, backups need to be scanned for hidden malware before restoration.
How long does it take to clean my hacked website?
Usually, the website is clean again within just a few hours. We also work on weekends and in the evenings – but it may take a bit longer during those times.
Will spam in Google search results be removed too?
Yes – if there are fewer than 20 to 30 Spam pages in Google Index, the Google search results should be back to normal within a few days. If there are 100 or more pages that have been indexed (meaning your website has been hacked for months or even years), we’ll try to remove as much as possible, but these can only be removed from Google manually.
Can you really repair our website?
In 99% of cases, your website will be restored to how it was before. Even if there’s just a blank page now, the website redirects to a pharma shop, or several elements are missing.
